THERE IS A FAMINE RAGING IN SOMALIA, SOUTH SUDAN, NIGERIA AND YEMEN AND IT IS SO SAD AND ALSO SO NOT UNDERSTANDABLE WHY WE HAVE SO MUCH FOOD IN THE UNITED STATES IN OUR GROCERY STORES AND RESTAURANTS AND YET THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING OF STARVATION IN AFRICA -- WHY GOD? WHY GOD? WE ARE BLESSED WITH SO MUCH ABUNDANCE IN THE UNITED STATES AND HOW CAN WE GET THE FOOD THAT WE HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH OF TO THOSE COUNTRIES STRUGGLING WITH FAMINE -- HOW CAN WE NOT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS FAMINE? WE CERTAINLY HAVE THE RESOURCES IN THE US TO HELP PEOPLE STRUGGLING WITH THIS FAMINE AND WE SHOULD CERTAINLY SEND AS MUCH ASSISTANCE AS POSSIBLE SOON. WHEN WILL OUR NATION WAKE-UP TO THE NEEDS OF THE IMPOVERISHED IN OTHER COUNTRIES WHO NEED OUR BLESSINGS, TOO? LOVE ALWAYS, DIANE
Scott Buehler So much food is actually sent to those nations, but their governments end up selling it, usually to finance weapons and in some cases terrorism. Unfortunately, they use their citizens this way. The solution would be to get food directly to the people and bypass governments, but that is difficult. I don't think it is as much a supply issue as it is a corruption issue.

Diane Olson SCOTT, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE US GOVERNMENT AND THE UN ARE NOT CAPABLE OF BYPASSING THEIR GOVERNMENTS GIVEN OUR MILITARY STRENGTH. IF WE SENT OUR MILITARY PEACEKEEPERS WITH THE FOOD, THERE IS NO REASON THE FOOD SHOULD NOT REACH THOSE WHO NEED IT. YOUR EXPLANATION JUST DOES NOT ADD-UP GIVEN THE RESOURCES AND POWER OF THE UNITED STATES. IF ONLY THE US WOULD CARE ABOUT THOSE NATIONS WHO DO NOT HAVE THE OIL RESOURCES THAT OUR NATION'S LEADERS (LIKE THE BUSHES) COVET AND WOULD USE OUR MILITARY MIGHT TO BRING PEACE TO THOSE IMPOVERISHED, EMBATTLED NATIONS WHO HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER IN RETURN. IT SIMPLY SHOULD NOT BE SO DIFFICULT FOR OUR GOVERNMENT -- THE US GOVERNMENT -- TO USE ITS MIGHT TO BYPASS TERRORIST REGIMES, IF ONLY OUR LEADERS WOULD HAVE COMPASSION UPON THOSE NATIONS SUFFERING FAMINE. LOVE, DIANE

Scott Buehler I don't disagree with your assessment. I don't think US military is welcome in these areas, and neither the UN forces. Sometimes these governments use their own people a bait unfortunately and relying on their suffering to bring in money and aide, only to use for their military or sell outright for profit. It is a shame

Kevin Johnson I don't normally respond to you, but you seems like you're asking a legitimate question and are looking for a real answer. A government is sovereign. You can't use a military to force a country to accept anything. That would be an invasion. Venezue...See More

Scott Buehler Also, George Bush is totally loved in Africa. He did more to fight Aids and educate the people there, and any president before and since. Don't assume hatred towards a Republican because the media hates Republicans. African nations had nothing to offer George Bush, but he bent over backwards to massively increase effort to help. If you don't believe me, do your research. Even Bono and George Bush became friends over the efforts, and Bono attributes saving hundreds of thousands of lives.

Diane Olson Kevin wrote, "but if the crates tend to sit on a pier someplace because the aid was refused, I think that is more their problem, not ours." JUST BECAUSE A GOVERNMENT DOES NOT HAVE COMPASSION FOR ITS OWN PEOPLE DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE USA AND OTHER NATIONS SHOULD NOT BE DOING SOMETHING TO HELP THE INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO ARE VICTIMS OF THEIR GOVERNMENT'S INDIFFERENCE AND CORRUPTION. WHEN THERE IS A FAMINE HAPPENING IN A COUNTRY -- WHETHER IT IS CAUSED NATURALLY OR BY A CORRUPT GOVERNMENT -- THE USA AND THE UN SHOULD BE CONCERNED ENOUGH TO INTERVENE IN THE SITUATION RATHER THAN PASSIVELY WATCH MILLIONS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE DIE OF STARVATION. I TEND TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS OUR PROBLEM, TOO, AS A HUMANITY THAT SHOULD CARE ABOUT AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER BECAUSE WE COULD HAVE JUST AS EASILY BEEN IN THEIR SITUATION, IF NOT BY THE GRACE AND WILL OF GOD THAT WE WERE BORN IN THE ABUNDANT USA. WE SHOULD CARE AND SHOW COMPASSION REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEIR GOVERNMENT IS DOING AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THEIR GOVERNMENT IS BLOCKING AID TO THE FAMISHED. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN PASSIVELY SAYING THAT "IT IS THEIR PROBLEM." THAT IS NOT CHRISTIAN AT ALL. LOVE ALWAYS, DIANE

Scott Buehler Do you want the military going in and killing the government forces, taking over the government, and losing American lives? I think that would not go over well, especially in the mentality of a lot on the left that America is colonial in nature with its military and evil. I think you would be quick to condemn any use of force when the first photo of any collateral damage shows up in the media. Many innocent people would be killed, in an effort to help. Look at Somalia years ago. Watch Blackhawk down. Your heart is good, but your expectations of America is not realistic.

Diane Olson Scott Buehler YOURS IS NOT AN ACCURATE SCENARIO OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF THE US ENTERED THEIR COUNTRIES AS PEACEKEEPERS. I DO BELIEVE IN AMERICAN AND UN INTERVENTION IN SUCH SITUATIONS AS FAMINE AND HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES, AND THAT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY EQUATE WITH AMERICAN'S BLOOD SHED. YET ARE WE NOT THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE BRAVE THAT DEFENDS THE FREEDOMS AND WELFARE OF THOSE SUFFERING IN OTHER COUNTRIES FROM HUMAN RIGHTS' ABUSES AND MALNUTRITION IS A HUMAN RIGHTS' ISSUE.YOURS IS A "WHAT IF" SCENARIO THAT SHOULD NOT DETER THE INTERVENTION OF THE US TO SAVE LIVES -- TO SAVE MANY, MANY MORE INNOCENT LIVES THAN WOULD POTENTIALLY BE LOST. I BELIEVE IN US AND UN INTERVENTION TO SERVE JUSTICE AND SAVE LIVES, AND ALWAYS HAVE. SINCERELY, DIANE

Scott Buehler We have been there Diana. Somalia. UN peace keeping mission, and to deliver food. Soldiers were killed, skinned and drug through the streets. It is not a what if scenario. Rwanda for the UN. I know someone who's brother died delivering aide in the Ivory Coast. These countries do not hold life sacred as we do here. They kill for sport sometimes, buy and sell each other for slaves, massive rape of women and young girls. They consistency reject American values, Christian values. As Kevin indicated, with experience in the matter. We give an incredible amount of food aide around the world. By ourselves and through the UN foundations and a ton of NGOs. They have to be willing to change if they want to actually help their people. They have to fight for themselves, and I am sure we and others help them militarily behind the scenes. For instance, Venezuela was a great place. Socialism destroyed them, like it does everywhere. They have to overthrow their leadership. We cannot do that any longer, wastes our lives, resources and image around the world.

Diane Olson SCOTT, I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT WE CAN LUMP ALL OF THE PEOPLE OF NATION TOGETHER AND SAY THAT THEY DO NOT HOLD LIFE SACRED AS WE DO HERE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT WE SHOULD TURN A BLIND EYE TO THE SUFFERING AND HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES OF OTHER COUNTRIES WHEN THERE ARE DEAR CHILDREN OF GOD SUFFERING FROM THOSE ABUSES. THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FIGHT FOR THEMSELVES BECAUSE JESUS COMMANDS THAT WE STAND-UP FOR AND FIGHT FOR THE WEAK ONES OF THIS WORLD. WE WHO ARE SO ABUNDANTLY BLESSED IN THE USA ARE COMMANDED BY OUR FAITH IN THE LORD TO CARE ABOUT AND SHOW COMPASSION TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO DID NOT CHOOSE TO BE BORN IN THOSE NATIONS AND DID NOT CHOOSE TO SUFFER ABUSE AT THE HANDS OF THEIR GOVERNMENTS. WHO ARE YOU TO SAY THAT ALL PEOPLE OF A NATION ARE BAD AND REJECT AMERICAN VALUES WHEN THAT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE AT ALL -- DID YOU ASK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THE PEOPLE OR DO YOU SIMPLY ASSUME AND SPEAK FOR THEM INSTEAD OF WITH THEM? AND THERE IS SOCIALISM IN NORWAY AND SWEDEN AND THOSE TWO COUNTRIES ARE GREAT COUNTRIES, SO WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT SOCIALISM IS NOT TRUE AT ALL. SO ON ALL FRONTS, I DISAGREE WITH YOU BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT OUR FAITH IN LORD JESUS COMMANDS THAT WE DO SOMETHING ABOUT INJUSTICES IN THIS WORLD AND THAT WE WHO ARE SO BLESSED MUST SHARE OUR BLESSINGS AND FIGHT FOR THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE SUFFERING AND HAVE NOT BEEN BLESSED. THIS IS STILL A QUESTION TO GOD (NOT TO FELLOW HUMANS) ABOUT WHY THE INNOCENT IN THESE COUNTRIES MUST SUFFER SO MUCH AND WHY THE US DOES NOT USE ITS GOD-GIVEN POWER AND BLESSINGS TO SERVE THESE PEOPLE BECAUSE CERTAINLY THEIR LIVES ARE JUST AS PRECIOUS IN THE EYES OF OUR CREATOR AND CERTAINLY OUR CREATOR WANTS US TO REGARD THEIR LIVES AS PRECIOUS, TOO, AND WORTHY OF PROTECTION AND CARE AND COMPASSION. SINCERELY, DIANE K. OLSON
